RESUMO

Ecological water replenishment (EWR) is an important strategy for river restoration globally, but timely evaluation of its ecological effects at a large spatiotemporal scale to further adjust the EWR schemes is of great challenge. Here, we examine the impact of EWR on microeukaryotic plankton communities in three distinct river ecosystems through environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding. The three ecosystems include a long-term cut-off river, a short-term connected river after EWR, and long-term connected rivers. We analyzed community stability by investigating species composition, stochastic and deterministic dynamics interplay, and ecological network robustness. We found that EWR markedly reduced the diversity and complexity of microeukaryotic plankton, altered their community dynamics, and lessened the variation within the community. Moreover, EWR disrupted the deterministic patterns of community organization, favoring dispersal constraints, and aligning with trends observed in naturally connected rivers. The shift from an isolated to a temporarily connected river appeared to transition community structuring mechanisms from deterministic to stochastic dominance, whereas, in permanently connected rivers, both forces concurrently influenced community assembly. The ecological network in temporarily connected rivers post-EWR demonstrated significantly greater stability and intricacy compared to other river systems. This shift markedly bolstered the resilience of the ecological network. The eDNA metabarcoding insights offer a novel understanding of ecosystem resilience under EWR interventions, which could be critical in assessing the effects of river restoration projects throughout their life cycle.

Water is a fundamental element for life. The highly selective and sensitive sensing of water is always attractive for mankind in activities such as physiological processes study and extraterrestrial life exploration. Fluorescent MOFs with precise channels and functional groups might specifically recognize water molecules with hydrogen-bond interaction or coordination effects and work as water sensors. As a proof of concept, herein, an amino functionalized Zn-MOF (named as complex 1) with pores that just right for water molecules to form hydrogen bond bridges is revealed for highly selective and sensitive fluorescent sensing of water. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that the 3D framework of complex 1 is functionalized with free amino groups in the channels. Hydrogen bonds formed in the channel along b-axis as water bridges to connect two adjacent NH2bdc ligands and result in the restriction of intramolecular motions (RIM) which could responsible for the selective turn-on fluorescence response to water. Complex 1 exhibits high sensitive to trace amount of water in organic solvents and could be used for water detection in a wide range water contents. Take advantages of complex 1, portable sensors (complex 1@PMMA) were prepared and used in the highly sensitive water sensing.

Microorganisms are crucial elements of terrestrial ecosystems, which play significant roles in improving soil physicochemical properties, providing plant growth nutrients, degrading toxic and harmful chemicals, and biogeochemical cycling. Variations in the types and quantities of root exudates among different plants greatly alter soil physicochemical properties and result in variations in the diversity, structure, and function of soil microorganisms. Not much is understood about the differences of soil fungi and archaea communities for different plant communities in coastal wetlands, and their response mechanisms to environmental changes. In this study, fungal and archaea communities in soils of Suaeda salsa, Phragmites australis, and Spartina alterniflora in the intertidal habitat of coastal wetlands were selected for research. Soil fungi and archaea were analyzed for diversity, community structure, and function using high throughput ITS and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The study revealed significant differences in fungi and archaea's diversity and community structure in the rhizosphere soil of three plant communities. At the same time, there is no significant difference in the functional groups. SOM, TP, AP, MC, EC and SOM, TN, TP, AP, MC, EC are the primary environmental determinants affecting changes in soil fungal and archaeal communities, respectively. Variations in the diversity, community structure, and ecological functions of fungi and archaea can be used as indicators characterizing the impact of external disturbances on the soil environment, providing a theoretical foundation for the effective utilization of soil microbial resources, thereby achieving the goal of environmental protection and health promotion.

LncRNAs play an important role in autoimmune diseases. The purpose of this study was to explore the role of lncRNA SNHG1 in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and laid a theoretical foundation for the study of SLE. The basic clinical information of all subjects was first collected for statistical analysis, and SNHG1 expression in the serum of all subjects was detected by RT-qPCR. The value of SNHG1 in the diagnosis of SLE was assessed by ROC. The correlation between SNHG1 and each blood sample index was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis. The role of SNHG1 in primary peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) apoptosis was explored. SNHG1 expression is relatively upregulated in patients with SLE compared to healthy people. SNHG1 expression was positively correlated with SLEDAI score, IgG, CRP, and ESR, and negatively correlated with C3 and C4. ROC indicated that SNHG1 has the potential to assist in the diagnosis of SLE. PBMCs apoptosis in SLE was higher than that in control group, the knockdown and overexpression of SNHG1 could correspondingly inhibit and promote PBMCs apoptosis. SNHG1 has the potential to be a diagnosis marker for SLE and may be involved in regulating PBMCs apoptosis.

AIM: This study aimed to investigate the expression of H19 and its possible molecular mechanism in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHODS: The expression of H19 and miR-19b in serum and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were detected by reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was constructed to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum H19 in SLE. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation between serum levels of H19 and miR-19b. Flow cytometry and Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay were performed to detect cell apoptosis and viability. The levels of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory factors were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Luciferase reporter gene assay was conducted to verify the interaction between H19 and miR-19b. RESULTS: The expression of H19 and miR-19b in SLE group were up-regulated and down-regulated, respectively. Serum H19 has certain clinical diagnostic value in SLE. In in vitro studies, overexpression of H19 can significantly inhibit the viability of PBMCs and promote apoptosis and inflammatory response of PBMCs by interacting with miR-19b. CONCLUSIONS: The expression of H19 is upregulated in patients with SLE and plays a role in cell function and inflammation by targeting miR-19b in PBMCs, which may be one of the pathological mechanisms of SLE.

Is the radiomic approach, utilizing diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), capable of predicting the various pathological grades of intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC)? Furthermore, which model demonstrates superior performance among the diverse algorithms currently available? The objective of our study is to develop DWI radiomic models based on different machine learning algorithms and identify the optimal prediction model. We undertook a retrospective analysis of the DWI data of 77 patients with IMCC confirmed by pathological testing. Fifty-seven patients initially included in the study were randomly assigned to either the training set or the validation set in a ratio of 7:3. We established four different classifier models, namely random forest (RF), support vector machines (SVM), logistic regression (LR), and gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT), by manually contouring the region of interest and extracting prominent radiomic features. An external validation of the model was performed with the DWI data of 20 patients with IMCC who were subsequently included in the study. The area under the receiver operating curve (AUC), accuracy (ACC), precision (PRE), sensitivity (REC), and F1 score were used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the model. Following the process of feature selection, a total of nine features were retained, with skewness being the most crucial radiomic feature demonstrating the highest diagnostic performance, followed by Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix lmc1 (glcm-lmc1) and kurtosis, whose diagnostic performances were slightly inferior to skewness. Skewness and kurtosis showed a negative correlation with the pathological grading of IMCC, while glcm-lmc1 exhibited a positive correlation with the IMCC pathological grade. Compared with the other three models, the SVM radiomic model had the best diagnostic performance with an AUC of 0.957, an accuracy of 88.2%, a sensitivity of 85.7%, a precision of 85.7%, and an F1 score of 85.7% in the training set, as well as an AUC of 0.829, an accuracy of 76.5%, a sensitivity of 71.4%, a precision of 71.4%, and an F1 score of 71.4% in the external validation set. The DWI-based radiomic model proved to be efficacious in predicting the pathological grade of IMCC. The model with the SVM classifier algorithm had the best prediction efficiency and robustness. Consequently, this SVM-based model can be further explored as an option for a non-invasive preoperative prediction method in clinical practice.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the ability of MRI-based intratumoral and peritumoral radiomics features of liver tumors to differentiate between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) and to predict ICC differentiation. METHODS: This study retrospectively collected 87 HCC patients and 75 ICC patients who were confirmed pathologically. The standard region of interest (ROI) of the lesion drawn by the radiologist manually shrank inward and expanded outward to form multiple ROI extended regions. A three-step feature selection method was used to select important radiomics features and convolution features from extended regions. The predictive performance of several machine learning classifiers on dominant feature sets was compared. The extended region performance was assessed by area under the curve (AUC), specificity, sensitivity, F1-score and accuracy. RESULTS: The performance of the model is further improved by incorporating convolution features. Compared with the standard ROI, the extended region obtained better prediction performance, among which 6 mm extended region had the best prediction ability (Classification: AUC = 0.96, F1-score = 0.94, Accuracy: 0.94; Grading: AUC = 0.94, F1-score = 0.93, Accuracy = 0.89). CONCLUSION: Larger extended region and fusion features can improve tumor predictive performance and have potential value in tumor radiology.

The intricate evolutionary dynamics of endosymbiotic relationships result in unique characteristics among the genomes of symbionts, which profoundly influence host insect phenotypes. Here, we investigated an endosymbiotic system in Phenacoccus solenopsis, a notorious pest of the subfamily Phenacoccinae. The endosymbiont, "Candidatus Tremblaya phenacola" (T. phenacola PSOL), persisted throughout the complete life cycle of female hosts and was more active during oviposition, whereas there was a significant decline in abundance after pupation in males. Genome sequencing yielded an endosymbiont genome of 221.1 kb in size, comprising seven contigs and originating from a chimeric arrangement between betaproteobacteria and gammaproteobacteria. A comprehensive analysis of amino acid metabolic pathways demonstrated complementarity between the host and endosymbiont metabolism. Elimination of T. phenacola PSOL through antibiotic treatment significantly decreased P. solenopsis fecundity. Weighted gene coexpression network analysis demonstrated a correlation between genes associated with essential amino acid synthesis and those associated with host meiosis and oocyte maturation. Moreover, altering endosymbiont abundance activated the host mechanistic target of rapamycin pathway, suggesting that changes in the amino acid abundance affected the host reproductive capabilities via this signal pathway. Taken together, these findings demonstrate a mechanism by which the endosymbiont T. phenacola PSOL contributed to high fecundity in P. solenopsis and provide new insights into nutritional compensation and coevolution of the endosymbiotic system.

Growing concerns have raised about the microplastic eco-coronas in the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection wastewater, which accelerated the pollution of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the aquatic environment. As the hotspot of gene exchange, microplastics (MPs), especially for the UV-aged MPs, could alter the spread of ARGs in the eco-coronas and affect the resistance of the environment through adsorbing antibiotic resistant plasmids (ARPs). However, the relationship between the MP adsorption for ARPs and ARG spreading characteristics in MP eco-corona remain unclear. Herein, this study explored the distribution of ARGs in the MP eco-corona through in situ investigations of the discharged wastewater, and the adsorption behaviors of MPs for ARPs by in vitro adsorption experiments and in silico calculations. Results showed that the adsorption capacity of MPs for ARPs was enhanced by 42.7-48.0 % and the adsorption behavior changed from monolayer to multilayer adsorption after UV-aging. It was related to the increased surface roughness and oxygen-containing functional groups of MPs under UV treatment. Moreover, the abundance of ARGs in MP eco-corona of UV-treated wastewater was 1.33-1.55 folds higher than that without UV treatment, promoting the proliferation of drug resistance. DFT and DLVO theoretical calculations indicated that the MP-ARP interactions were dominated by electrostatic physical adsorption, endowing the aged MPs with low potential oxygen-containing groups to increase the electrostatic interaction with ARPs. Besides, due to the desorption of ARPs on MPs driven by the electrostatic repulsion, the bioavailability of ARGs in the MP eco-coronas was increased with pH and decreased with salinity after the wastewater discharge. Overall, this study advanced the understanding of the adsorption behavior of MPs for ARPs and provided inspirations for the evaluation of the resistance spread in the aquatic environment mediated by MP eco-coronas.

Modulating Tankyrases (TNKS), interactions with USP25 to promote TNKS degradation, rather than inhibiting their enzymatic activities, is emerging as an alternative/specific approach to inhibit the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. Here, we identified UAT-B, a novel neoantimycin analog isolated from Streptomyces conglobatus, as a small-molecule inhibitor of TNKS-USP25 protein-protein interaction (PPI) to overcome multi-drug resistance in colorectal cancer (CRC). The disruption of TNKS-USP25 complex formation by UAT-B led to a significant decrease in TNKS levels, triggering cell apoptosis through modulation of the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. Importantly, UAT-B successfully inhibited the CRC cells growth that harbored high TNKS levels, as demonstrated in various in vitro and in vivo studies utilizing cell line-based and patient-derived xenografts, as well as APCmin/+ spontaneous CRC models. Collectively, these findings suggest that targeting the TNKS-USP25 PPI using a small-molecule inhibitor represents a compelling therapeutic strategy for CRC treatment, and UAT-B emerges as a promising candidate for further preclinical and clinical investigations.

RESUMO

Doublecortin-like kinase 1 (DCLK1), a significant constituent of the protein kinase superfamily and the doublecortin family, has been recognized as a prooncogenic factor that exhibits a strong association with the malignant progression and clinical prognosis of various cancers. DCLK1 serves as a stem cell marker that governs tumorigenesis, tumor cell reprogramming, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Multiple studies have indicated the capable of DCLK1 in regulating the DNA damage response and facilitating DNA damage repair. Additionally, DCLK1 is involved in the regulation of the immune microenvironment and the promotion of tumor immune evasion. Recently, DCLK1 has emerged as a promising therapeutic target for a multitude of cancers. Several small-molecule inhibitors of DCLK1 have been identified. Nevertheless, the biological roles of DCLK1 are mainly ambiguous, particularly with the disparities between its α- and ß-form transcripts in the malignant progression of cancers, which impedes the development of more precisely targeted drugs. This article focuses on tumor stem cells, tumor epithelial-mesenchymal transition, the DNA damage response, and the tumor microenvironment to provide a comprehensive overview of the association between DCLK1 and tumor malignant progression, address unsolved questions and current challenges, and project future directions for targeting DCLK1 for the diagnosis and treatment of cancers.

PURPOSE: The high cost of cancer treatment exposes patients to financial toxicity during treatment; however, no study has comprehensively analyzed the incidence of financial toxicity using a validated assessment tool. In this study, the objective was to ascertain the incidence of financial toxicity in cancer patients and the factors influencing it. METHODS: Nine electronic databases were retrieved to collect cross-sectional studies reporting financial toxicity in cancer patients. A random effects meta-analysis was applied to yield the overall prevalence of financial toxicity. Subgroup analyses were conducted depending on the factors affecting financial toxicity. RESULTS: In total, 30 studies met our inclusion criteria. The pooled prevalence of financial toxicity in cancer patients was 48% (95%CI:38%-58%, I2 = 99.4%, p < 0.001). In the subgroup analysis, a higher prevalence of financial toxicity in patients aged <67 years (47%, 95%CI: 28%-66%, I2 = 97.5%, p < 0.001), female (46%, 95%CI:39%-53%, I2 = 94.9%,p < 0.001), lung cancer(57%, 95%CI:38%-75%, I2 = 96.9%, p < 0.001), developing countries (64%, 95%CI:55%-72%, I2 = 98.1%, p < 0.001), time of investigation following COVID-19 (53%, 95%CI:37%-69%, I2 = 99.4%, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Financial toxicity is prevalent in cancer patients and is increasingly evident after COVID-19. Furthermore, the odds of financial toxicity are higher in patients who are female, younger, whose cancer type is lung cancer, and from developing countries. These findings emphasize the significance of evaluating financial toxicity in cancer patients after COVID-19, especially in developing countries. This may play a pivotal role in helping patients cope with financial toxicity.

AIM: To determine the psychological capital level of nurses and explore the latent profiles of nurses regarding their psychological capital scores. BACKGROUND: The use of individual-centered analysis for the connotation of nurses' psychological capital structure is less studied and still needs to be further explored. METHODS: By the convenience sampling method, 494 clinical nurses from 7 general hospitals in Sichuan province were selected. The study was conducted from December 2022 to February 2023. Latent profile analysis was used for data analysis. We followed STROBE guidelines in this research. RESULTS: The total mean score of nurses' psychological capital is 5.17 (SD = 0.8). The following four latent profiles were identified: "poor" (4.5%), "medium" (22.9%), "well-off" (41.5%), and "rich" (31.1%). Multiple logistic regression showed that the number of hours worked per day and the number of night shifts per month were negative predictors of psychological capital, and psychological training and job satisfaction were protective factors of psychological capital. DISCUSSION: Our study found that the four profiles can be distinguished by "poor," "well-off," "medium," and "rich" levels of psychological capital. Among them, more than 70% of the nurses belonged to the well-off and rich profiles, and the number of the poor profile was the lowest. CONCLUSION: The overall psychological capital of clinical nurses is at a medium-high level. Each profile is influenced by multiple sociodemographic factors (i.e., age, working hours, monthly income, psychological training, and job satisfaction). IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY: Administrators should develop enhancement strategies to improve the mental health of nurses based on the characteristics of their psychological capital profiles.

Guanosine pentaphosphate and guanosine tetraphosphate are collectively called (p)ppGpp (Guanosine tetraphosphate and pentaphosphate). (p)ppGpp content in plants is affected by conditions such as light, salt, pH, UV light, and environmental phytohormones. The synthesis and hydrolysis of (p)ppGpp in plants is accomplished by a class of proteins called RSH (RelA/SpoT homologs). To date, a systematic and comprehensive genome-wide analysis of the RSH gene family in wheat and its closely related species has not been conducted. In this study, 15, 14, 12, and 8 members of RSH were identified in wheat (Triticum aestivum), Triticum dicoccoides, Triticum urartu and Aegilops tauschii respectively. Based on the conserved structural domains of the RSH genes, the TaRSHs have been categorized into TaRSH and TaCRSH. The gene duplications in the TaRSH gene family were all identified as segmental duplications indicating that the TaRSH family plays a significant role in expansion and that segmental duplications maintain a degree of genetic stability. Through the analysis of transcriptome data and RT-qPCR experiments, it was observed that the expression levels of TaRSHs were upregulated in response to abiotic stress. This upregulation suggests that TaRSHs play a crucial role in enhancing the resilience of wheat to adverse environmental conditions during its growth and development. Their increased expression likely contributes to the acquisition of stress tolerance mechanisms in wheat. Especially under NaCl stress, the expression levels increased most significantly. The more detailed systematic analysis provided in this article will help us understand the role of TaRSHs and provide a reference for further research on its molecular biological functions in wheat.

A recent paper by Zhang, Wang, Duan, Tao, Zou, and Qiu [(2022). J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 152, 2840-2848] proposed that the average distance between physical microphones in remote acoustic sensing should be no larger than half the wavelength to ensure the coherence between the virtual signal and physical signals no less than 0.9 in complex sound fields. In this letter, the effects of the sound sources' distance on the coherence between the virtual signal and physical signals are further investigated, and it is found that the required average distance among physical microphones becomes smaller when sound sources are closer to the microphones.

Introduction: Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) is an important tool for hybrid heterosis utilization. However, the underlying mechanisms still need to be discovered. An adequate supply of nutrients is necessary for anther development; pollen abortion would occur if the metabolism of carbohydrates were hampered. Methods: In order to better understand the relationship between carbohydrate metabolism disorder and pollen abortion in S-CMS wheat, the submicroscopic structure of wheat anthers was observed using light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy; chloroplast proteome changes were explored by comparative proteomic analysis; sugar measuring and enzyme assays were performed; and the expression patterns of carbohydrate metabolism-related genes were studied using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) method. Results: These results indicated that the anther and microspore in S-CMS wheat underwent serious structural damage, including premature tapetum degeneration, nutritional shortage, pollen wall defects, and pollen grain malformations. Furthermore, the number of chloroplasts in the anthers of S-CMS lines decreased significantly, causing abnormal carbohydrate metabolism, and disintegration of osmiophilic granules and thylakoids. Meanwhile, some proteins participating in the Calvin cycle and carbohydrate metabolism were abnormally expressed in the chloroplasts of the S-CMS lines, which might lead to chloroplast dysfunction. Additionally, several key enzymes and genes related to carbohydrate metabolism were significantly inhibited in S-CMS. Discussion: Based on these results, we proposed a carbohydrate metabolism pathway for anther abortion in S-type cytoplasmic male sterility, which would encourage further exploration of the pollen abortion mechanisms for CMS wheat.

The floor-level slit between the door and the floor is one weak point in building noise insulation. In this paper, an active noise control system is proposed to reduce the sound transmission through a floor-level slit with evenly distributed secondary sources on its top boundary. The system performance is first investigated based on the analytical and numerical models, and simulation results indicate a decrease in active control performance with increasing frequency. The upper limit frequency of 10 dB effective control increases with a higher number of secondary sources, and the corresponding wavelength of the upper limit frequency is approximately the interval between the secondary sources when a plane wave is incident normally. Although the upper limit frequency decreases with the slit height, it approaches a constant when the slit height becomes significantly smaller than the wavelength in the incident sound. The experimental results based on a typical floor-level door slit support the findings in the numerical simulations. For a slit with a width of 0.9 m and a height of 0.005 m, the upper limit frequency of 10 dB noise reduction can reach up to 2830 Hz when ten secondary sources are employed in the experiments.

AIMS: This study aimed to explore the effects of compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue on the posttraumatic growth of psychiatric nurses. BACKGROUND: Psychiatric nurses' prolonged and repeated exposure to trauma and complex situations in the work environment can lead to negative emotions such as compassion fatigue, but they also experience positive consequences such as posttraumatic growth, and the relationship between compassion fatigue and posttraumatic growth is not unclear. METHODS: A total of 336 nurses from psychiatry departments of seven tertiary hospitals in Sichuan Province, China, were administered an online questionnaire. Participants were recruited through convenience sampling. The posttraumatic growth level was measured with the Simplified Chinese version of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory. The Professional Quality of Life Scale-Chinese version was used to assess compassion satisfaction, burnout and secondary traumatic stress. T-test and one-way variance analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and hierarchical linear regression were used for data analysis. A STROBE checklist was used to guide the reporting of the research. RESULTS: Psychiatric nurses' posttraumatic growth is at a low level, influenced by demographic and occupational factors, whereas compassion satisfaction, burnout and secondary traumatic stress are at a moderate level. Hierarchical regression analysis suggested that compassion satisfaction and secondary traumatic stress had a positive impact on posttraumatic growth, whereas burnout had a negative impact on posttraumatic growth. CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest that nursing managers should attach importance to the mental health of psychiatric nurses, improve compassion satisfaction, alleviate burnout and promote posttraumatic growth.

BACKGROUND: Timely identification and intervention of psychological disorders bear significant import in ameliorating the ensuing therapeutic trajectories in primary bone tumor patients. Moreover, perturbations in thyroxine and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels have been linked to manifestations of depressive and anxiety-related symptoms. However, the precise interplay governing the nexus of anxiety, depression, and the levels of thyroxine and TSH within the context of primary bone tumor patients remains presently unexplored. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to investigate the potential correlation between the hypothalamus- pituitary-thyroxine (HPT) axis and the depressive as well as anxious states observed in patients afflicted with bone tumors. METHODS: Patients with primary bone tumors were required to accept the assessments of anxiety and depressive symptoms as well as thyroid axis hormone concentrations. The depressive and anxiety symptoms were assessed using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) score. During each follow-up, peripheral venous blood samples were collected for subsequent analysis using radioimmunoassay methods to measure serum- free T3, free T4, and TSH levels, with the calculated free T3 to free T4 ratio indicating peripheral free T4 to free T3 conversion. Tests for trend were conducted to assess thyroid axis hormone concentrations, HAMA scores, and HAMD scores, while the correlation between HAMA or HAMD scores and thyroid axis hormone concentrations was examined through univariate regression analyses. RESULTS: The study included 30 primary bone tumor patients. Initial high HAMA and HAMD scores decreased over a year after surgery (P < 0.05), reflecting diminishing anxiety and depression. TSH levels reduced postoperatively, contrasting with increased free-T3 and free-T4 levels (p < 0.01). Multivariate analysis affirmed that positive correlations were noted between TSH and anxiety/depression scores, while free-T3 correlated negatively, adjusted for demographic factors (p < 0.05). No significant associations emerged between HAMA/HAMD scores and free-T4 or free-T3 to free-T4 ratio (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The early identification of the low T3 syndrome could prove instrumental in both intervening and preventing adverse emotional states associated with primary bone tumors.

AIMS: The aim of this study was to assess the level of mental workload of Chinese nurses through a latent profile analysis and to explore its relationship with public health emergency response capacity. DESIGN: A cross-sectional design with a convenience sample. METHODS: A convenience sample of nurses from five tertiary hospitals in Chengdu between May and December 2022. Demographic, work-related information, Nurse's version of NASA's Task Load Index Scale and Nurse's Public Health Emergency Response Capacity Scale were used in this study. RESULTS: The mean scores for mental workload and emergency response capacity for nurses were (57.19 ± 15.67) and (3.58 ± 0.77) respectively. We found that the mental workload of nurses fell into three potential categories. In addition, there were differences in psychological training and supply of epidemic prevention materials in the department among nurses with different mental workload subtypes. There was a moderate negative correlation between nurses' mental workload and public health emergency response capacity. CONCLUSION: Our results show that there is still a strong mental workload on a proportion of nurses, and enhanced psychological training and material supply support are beneficial in relieving nurses' mental workload. The better the nurses' capacity to cope with public health emergencies, the lower their mental workload. IMPACT: Nursing managers should pay ongoing attention to the mental workload status of nurses in the latter stages of a pandemic and individual differences in nurses' mental workload. In addition, nursing managers should be aware of the impact of public health emergency response capacity on nurses' mental workload. They can intervene in nurses mental workload from a new perspective. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: 560 registered nurses participated in this study.
